Entries are now being accepted for Cornwall Public Library’s 2018 Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition and young poets, ages 5-18, are invited to participate. **UPDATE** – The date for entry submission has passed.

Timothy Mumford was a 1999 graduate of Cornwall High School and a 2003 graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School.  Tim studied music and played the piano, guitar and trumpet.  He wrote both poetry and song lyrics, and played the featured piano piece during his Gallatin School graduation ceremony at Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center.  Tim was also the winner of the 1999 Orange County Day poetry contest.  Those who knew him describe him as a kind, sensitive, and artistic young man.

A winner will be picked in five different age categories, as well as a best overall poem, by a panel of independent judges. This year, we are excited to announce that Robert Milby, Poet Laureate of Orange County is one of our judges, along with local writers, Wynn Klosky and Steve Fowler. Winners in each of the categories will be announced and awards presented at a ceremony on Sunday, April 29th at 2:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room.

Submissions can be dropped off at the library during regular hours, e-mailed to: corpoetry@rcls.org, or mailed to: Cornwall Public Library, Attn: Poetry Competition, 395 Hudson St., Cornwall, NY 12518.
