Synopsis: A historical mystery novel about Sergeant Akal Singh, a young Indian police officer in 1914 colonial Fiji, who investigates the disappearance of an indentured Indian woman from a sugarcane plantation, uncovering the brutal realities of indentured servitude, deep-seated racism, and his own prejudices as he confronts a complex web of colonial exploitation and silenced secrets.
